#354 - Kevin Smith's Heart Attack, Derren Brown Special, and Patton Oswalt

Chuck starts the episode with a quick thank you to the good people at HP for the new laptop. Once that's aside, we give some quick show and social media plugs, then talk about Impractical Jokers getting another season and a movie! Wow! We change gears and talk about Kevin Smith suffering a heart attack and what he means to us. After that, we talk about the new Derren Brown special on Netflix. We discuss psychological manipulation and social conditioning with our trademark wit and knowledge. Recently, Chuck went to see Patton Oswalt on the book tour for his late wife, Michelle McNamara's book, "I'll Be Gone in the Dark." Chuck then talks about watching the new Patton Oswalt special and the new Chris Rock specials on Netflix. This forces us to examine the fact that we love certain artists, but sometimes have trouble knowing how to support them. We then talk about our stand-up show from a few weeks back, then close with a quick review of the new movie "Game Night."

Episode 199: The Story of Nick

Episode 199 finds the boys joined by character artist Nick Kole. Before they dive into the interview, there are some Senior Discount updates and some updates from Brad's improv scene. After that, they discuss the below Web Couliers, before advancing to movie news concerning a sequel to "Neighbors," as well as a Holiday Horror Anthology including a short film directed by Kevin Smith. Whoa mama!
The chief topic of conversation during this episode, though, is Nick Kole. We learn about Nick's background as an artist, what drew him to character design and storytelling, what Viennese Christmas celebrations are like...everything you'd expect to hear. Nick talks about his work with the companion book to Disney's Maleficent, as well as his work in dragon/wizard design for 38 Studios and EA Games/Dawngate Chronicles. It's very fun conversation as we seek to get into the brain of this fantastic artist.

Episode 152: New Media, Patrick Rothfuss, and Patton Oswalt

The 152nd installment of this fine program starts with Senior Discount Updates from Chuck, followed by some Brad Updates by Brad. From there, Chuck offers some movie driplets about new shows coming in the future. Chuck then delves into the strange world of giving up DirectTV - how hard is it going to be to watch his favorite shows? How much thinking should one have to do about television? C&B banter about who watches more TV and how they watch it, all the while dodging the real issue - why is it so hard to accurately fast-forward on Hulu?

Once they put that topic to bed, Brad tells the story of going to Cambridge for a reading and signing by renowned fantasy author Patrick Rothfuss. Did Brad meet new people and make new friends? Did Patrick Rothfuss throw away the live podcast DVD Brad handed him? Listen and find out yo'self! Chuck and Brad then tell the story of going to see stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt in Boston on the following night, and then share a few thoughts about the evening.
