#386 - Halloween 2018

We are joined this year for our annual Halloween episode by our pal Ray Harrington. We open (somewhat incongruously) with a long discussion of comic strips and their appeal. We plug some upcoming shows, then Chuck recaps our Halloween season so far, including Chuck and Ray's Vermont trip and some fun movies we've seen. We segue into a discussion of horror movies and stories that have stayed with us long after the stories end. We discuss the new Halloween movie and also try to convince Ray to watch the Paranormal Activity series. After that, Chuck and Ray try to convince me to watch Eli Roth's horror documentary. Chuck tells a bizarre story from his youth that relates to a current political race in the area. Ray tells us about his experience with Halloween as a youth and how the relationship has changed up to and including fatherhood. We revisit the topic of horror stories that have stayed with us. Chuck talks about the original Pet Sematary movie and reveals Gina's amazing detective skills, then we close with a discussion about adapting novels to movies.

#385 - The Nightmare On Elm Street Saga - Part 2

(Note: Part 1 has the first six Freddy films.)As we've done the past few years, we have chosen a horror movie series to watch. We then recap the series to our non-horror-loving pal, Brian Lau! This year found Chuck and I making our way through the Nightmare On Elm Street Universe. In this episode, we talk about our feelings on the final three films - Wes Craven's A New Nightmare, Freddy versus Jason, and the 2010 reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street. Whoa mama! We talk about the underlying logic of the series and how well that's explained, we ask B Lau pointed questions about how he would react in given situations, and recap and learn more about these films! Chuck and I offer our feelings on the franchise as a whole and try not to spook B Lau too much!

#384 - The Nightmare On Elm Street Saga - Part 1

As we've done the past few years, we have chosen a horror movie series to watch. We then recap the series to our non-horror-loving pal, Brian Lau! This year found Chuck and I making our way through the Nightmare On Elm Street Universe. In this episode, we talk about our feelings on the first six films - the original, Freddy's Revenge, The Dream Warriors, The Dream Master, The Dream Child, and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. Geeze louise! We talk about the underlying logic of the series and how well that's explained, we ask B Lau pointed questions about how he would react in given situations, and recap and learn more about these films! (Note: Part 2 will have the final three Freddy films.)

Episode 288: Halloween 2016!

We're joined by Nic Hallenbeck and Brian Decoteaux for our annual Halloween episode! Chuck and I talk about the spooky things we've done this month to stay festive. We discuss Stranger Things, the documentary Tales of Rocky Point Park, and Hocus Pocus. We go through Chuck's favorite annual tradition - Rejected Halloween Costumes! It's a blast. Chuck updates us on the Grinchverse, and also adds a few songs to his Halloween playlist. Chuck and I recap and review Pet Sematary 2 (terrible!) Finally, Gina Mastrostefano joins the podcast to present a game - Chuck and I play this game, with the loser having to endure the most brutal punishment imaginable - doing a book report on the "biography" of WWE "superstar" Kane! (the biography is NOT about the real wrestler who plays the character, it's ACTUALLY about the fictional character - this book is so bad)

Episode 284.5: Announcing Our New Halloween Site!

A NEW CHUCK AND BRAD PODCAST ON A MONDAY? Yes! As the Halloween 2016 season begins in earnest, we wanted to provide you with a "treat" in terms of setting the season up right and getting ourselves in the mood; so we introduce to you Chuck and Brad's "Official" Halloween anthem in order to properly announce OUR HALLOWEEN WEBSITE! Check out all our podcasts, videos, upcoming appearances and other goodies from the years passed, collected all in one place! www.chuckandbradpodcast.com!
- Chuck

The goal of this episode is to release a recap of some of our Halloween festivities from last year that were recorded AFTER our official Halloween 2015 podcast...but first, Chuck shows me a video (for the aforementioned "anthem") that almost made shuffle off this mortal coil. It is terrible. It is wonderful. It is our new Halloween anthem. It is the below Web Coulier. Once I've properly digested that, we throw to the recap of last year's post-official-Halloween-2015-podcast spooky activities to get us (and you) in the mood to celebrate this year!

Episode 182: Halloween 2014

Chuck and Brad are joined by Halloween "experts" Nic Hallenbeck and Brian Decoteaux for a spooky talk about the spookiest season of the year! After some chatter about upcoming events and the below Web Coulier, the guys break into topic number one - the animated special known as "Halloween Is Grinch Night." Is it good? How does it fit into the extended Grinch-verse? Hear the unbiased, uncensored review!
The second topic is brainstorming - costume ideas and treat ideas. And while Brad doesn't have many ideas, rest assured they are better than any of the ideas Chuck solicited from friend of the podcast Eric Maksood.
Chuck then offers his Ultimate-As-Of-Now Halloween Playlist. A ton of songs from a ton of bands! The guys discuss the appropriateness of the songs mentioned and offer suggestions of their own. Listen soon and get in the Halloween "spirit!" (Even that is better than Maksood's jokes.)

Episode 180: Nick Swardson, Salem, Gratitude, and Marvel News

After the updates from the Providence Improv community and Senior Discount, Chuck regales Brad with some movie driplets - a possible re-visit to the Saw franchise, as well as updates to The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and a Fraggle Rock movie. Chuck then relates a comical misunderstanding online involving one of our good friends and some salacious items on a Wish List.
Chuck and Brad recently went with some pals to see Nick Swardson do stand-up. What did the group think of the show? Chuck talks about some other festive Halloween things they've done recently, then talks about a trip to Salem, MA, and a conflagration with his girlfriend. Brad tells Chuck about his trip to a Jasper Fforde reading/signing, then about his visit to Q Commons, a motivational inspirational lecture series that led to Brad creating a gratitude journal he calls a "brad-itude journal." Chuck thoughtfully considers what he is grateful for from the previous few days and the guyz realize that being thankful for things is good.
Chuck also relates the tale of an online joke that was deleted and expresses his displeasure with the delete-er. A few more news items close out the podcast - Iron Man in Captain America 3? HBO Go for streaming only? And a Marvel Comics Mega-Event that sounds amazing! Wow! Give us a listen!

Episode 133: Dissecting the "Child's Play" Series

In true Halloween spirit, this episode brings you the whole twisted tale of Charles Lee Ray, a murderer who injected his soul into the body of a doll, as a final desperate way to live on. This is the story of "Child's Play".
Chuck, along with killer-doll-sized guest Molly Mercado, sit young Master Brad down and tell him the entire saga of the six movies that star "Chucky" the murderous toy (including the brand new "Curse of Chucky" that was released straight-to-DVD this week!).
The podcast is filled to the gills with spoilers for this movie series that started 25 years ago.
