#462 - Onward, Comfort Viewing, and The Joy Of Being Early Adopters

We filmed this week! And we're joined (via satellite?) by our good pal, comedian/documentarian Ray Harrington! We riff on Chuck's now-constant use of "Sopranos" references as he makes his way through the series. A listener email spurs me to share my thoughts on The Gaslight Anthem, and we all discuss how we feel about liking things that then suddenly get super popular and why we feel that way. We debut our new segment "Quaranteeny Victories" - small things we accomplished because of the lockdown. Chuck offers an apology for a technical snafu on the last two podcasts, then tells us about the Roast of Rich Vos available on YouTube. He also explains Project 88 - Back to the Future Too. We discuss our feelings about the Disney/Pixar film Onward, as well as some Jack Black projects. We discuss the idea of "comfort food" media and name some examples from our own lives. Chuck closes the podcast with a report of an adorable squabble with his girlfriend Gina. It's a very fun conversation!

The two teams (Brad and Brian versus Chuck and Ray) go head-to-head in different Christmas games live in front of a studio (?) audience! The winners will be named the Kings of Christmas - who ya got?

Episode 282: Super Mario Run, Rob Lowe Roast, and CM Punk's UFC Debut

The 282nd installment begins with some show updates, then goes to the movie driplets. Jurassic World is going to be a trilogy - guess how excited Chuck is for that? We learn who the villain will be for the third Wolverine movie, and talk about the upcoming Stan Lee biopic. Nintendo recently announced an endless runner game coming to iOS systems - we have feelings about this. Chuck laments the news that the upgraded PS4 will not have a 4K blu-ray drive. I remain ambivalent.
We talk about the Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe and try to figure out why we didn't like it as much as previous roasts. Chuck talks about his struggle to get Green Day tickets, but gets excited about the chance to see Reel Big Fish play one of their albums live.
We close the show by talking extensively about CM Punk's venture into mixed martial arts. Unsurprisingly, we are firmly in his corner, and passionately defend his stance to an uncaring MMA community.

Episode 206: Furious 7, the Bieber Roast, and Chuck's Acoustic Show

Episode 206 finds Chuck with an exhausted, frazzled Brad in the studio. They talk about their upcoming shows before getting in to the below Web Couliers. Chuck has a movie driplet (more of a TV driplet) about a Full House reboot, and Brad follows with a driplet of his own about Arrested Development.
Chuck talks about his performance opening for Dave Hause and offers a behind-the-scenes peek at his preparation and performance that night. He then offers an interesting tidbit about the game Payday 2. Chuck and Brad talk about the Roast of Justin Bieber and offer differing opinions on the quality of the performances that night. They then discuss the recent movie Get Hard and offer very similar opinions.
From there, it's a discussion about global phenomenon "Furious 7," before Chuck ends the podcast with a segment called "Blu-ray Blues."

Episode 128: Franco Roast, "Artificial Intelligence," and Comfort Animals

A short episode this week! Wow! We start with some very brief Senior Discount announcements hyping two upcoming shows. Chuck, Brad, and guest Abe Correia talk about the recent Comedy Central Roast of James Franco. Following that, Chuck talks about a recently-released script for a 2002 Batman/Superman script that was never made. The three geeks agree to read the script and offer notes.
Chuck then rehashes the movie "AI: Artificial Intelligence," a film neither Brad nor Abe has seen recently. Chuck talks about the creepiness and sadness of the movie and Abe and Brad almost cry. Brad offers a recent development from his work life and the pals talk about "comfort animals" and their place in modern society.
Chuck segues beautifully into the second appearance of his new segment "Shut the Fuck Up."
This episode closes with Chuck reading, verbatim, an online personal ad that Brad found on an online dating site. Oh dear.
